Resurgam "I shall rise again," is a promise of return.
There is intent. Shall
There is action. Rise
There is a cycle. Again.
The time, the place, and the form of the return (or rising) are unknown, all mysteries.
And then there's that elusive I. In the book, RESURGAM Standing on the Ground of Remembrance, the identity was the unknown soldier who lived again through remembrance. His identity was always changing. He was an unknown soldier in Alpha Company. Then he was in World War II, in World War I, and in the inner war. In each instance, a new identity returned through remembrance. The more one learns, the more the I evolves. Identity is never a fixed point of reference.
The first edition of the book, RESURGAM Standing on the Ground of Remembrance, was a limited release preview copy. The writer's goal was to distribute the preview copy to members of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry, 101st Airborne Division and receive their feedback. Jean had written about their experiences from March 16-March 29, 1968 and July 7, 1968. She knew the significance of the dates for Phil Woodall and it was important to ensure Alpha Company liked the book. She made a promise to Phil Woodall in 1988 that she would write Alpha Company's story and the book, released in 2009, fulfilled her promise.

Remember them echoes through every generation, and against the standing stones of history. The two words transform into a presence that enters Sophy’s awareness, directs her attention to the darkness, and whispers, “Go there.” Their existence glimmers in the dark realm of the unknown. It pulses with life and rests with death. The light of their story is a mystery, which leads to the ground of war. The power of remembrance illuminates their truth. They lived. They loved. They have a story to tell.
